Michigan dramshop laws were instituted to keep bars from over serving alcohol. If a patron is over served and is then involved in a drunk driving accident or any other activity that causes injury, death or property damage, the bar can be sued and held liable for civil damages.
In some cases, a bar, tavern or any other establishment selling alcohol can be held accountable for selling alcohol to someone who is visibly intoxicated or is a minor, if they cause death or injury to someone else.
If you or a loved one was injured or killed by an intoxicated individual, the establishment serving them may also be at fault. Under Michigan law, the lawsuit must be initiated within two years of the injury or death so time is of the essence in dramshop cases.
If you have been victimized by someone else because over service, contact the legal experts at Luedke Law Group. We will review your case and help you determine if the establishment was also responsible for the injury or death so they can be named in any legal proceedings going forward.
